New projects for Hackney Community Transport
Posted: 11 Jul 2019
We have two exciting new project announcements from Hackney Community Transport.
The first is the Get Out and About Locally (GOAL) programme, which aims to provide support for people who find it difficult to leave their homes due to loneliness, confidence, lack of motivation or mobility difficulties. GOAL will be a bookable excursion service, including transport and an activity, running 5 days per week. Activities will include stitch and knit, men in sheds, Bingo, day trips to the seaside, local theatre and cinemas.
Funding for the project has been secured through the Big Lottery and will run over an 18 month period. It is initially for 2-3 months, depending on the individual’s progress.
Our second piece of exciting news is that Hackney Community Transport have partnered with Hackney Libraries to deliver a project called Books Together (BT). BT offers older disabled and/or socially isolated people access to a unique shared reading and cultural discovery program through the exploration and group readings of great literature. The project enables older people facing multiple barriers, including those who have previously never read literature, to celebrate and engage with literary art through a program of shared reading. A full update will be provided in the Autumn.
